C.D. Howe Institute

The C.D. Howe Institute has its roots in the Private Planning Association of Canada, which was founded in 1958 and evolved over the years, becoming the modern C.D. Howe Institute in 1981. The Institute is an independent, non-profit economic and social policy research organization that looks at issues of national interest. It receives support and input from a broad private sector membership base, and also engages in regular discussions with federal, provincial and territorial governments. Academics from across Canada contribute to C.D. Howe publications.

Typically, the Institute explores topics across a wide range of public policy areas, and topics such as monetary policy, government finance, international and interprovincial trade, the environment, health care, social policy, and constitutional matters. The Institute has firmly stated its commitment to maintain objectivity, professionalism, and relevance at all times. It is based in Toronto.
