Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) was founded in 1980; its National Office is located in Ottawa. As well, there are four provincial offices in BC, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan. The CCPA promotes itself as an “alternative to the message that we have no choice about the policies that affect our lives.” Through its publications and activities, the CCPA hopes to demonstrate there are alternatives to the “limited perspectives of business research institutes and government agencies.”

The publications of the CCPA focus on issues of economic and social justice. The CCPA supports policies such as full employment, equal pay for work of equal value, environmental protection and renewal, maintaining Canadian sovereignty while participating in international activities, and government support for the poor and marginalized. The CCPA produces research reports, books, opinion pieces, and fact sheets, and publishes a monthly digest called The Monitor.
