Western Centre for Economic Research

The objective of the Western Centre for Economic Research (WCER) is to monitor the performance of Western Canada’s economy, its policies and programs, and implications for business enterprises. The WCER is sponsored by the Faculty of Business and the Department of Economics and Rural Economy at the University of Alberta. The WCER believes that knowledge of the economic climate helps firms and businesses to plan for success, develop economic policies, and understand how change can affect business operations.

The Centre’s main activity is undertaking research, on a fee-for-service basis, for businesses and firms. Its independent academic research is also published through a series of publications. The Centre also plays host to a variety of conferences and seminars, and has networking relationships with other institutes, centres, and organizations. The Centre’s advisory board is comprised of academics, government officials, and individuals from the private sector.
